From Ball Gown to dress-up dress

It was 2006. I was young and in love and all dressed up to go to a ball. I was also blonde. I’m pretty sure we decided at the last minute to go to the ball and I grabbed a dress that could go without altering from David’s bridal. Fast forward 10 years and the dress was sitting in my Moms closet collecting dust. My mom kept asking me when she would get her closet space back so when I finally relented and picked them up, I had a brilliant idea to have my mother in law make them into play dress up dresses. My mother in law, Carol happens to be the world’s most knowledgeable and talented seamstress and quilter, extraordinaire. She quilts for a living and works at a sewing center, so i knew she would see my vision and run with it! We had previously worked together on designing and making ¬†“homecoming” outfits for my husbands return from Afghanistan (using his uniforms and nametapes) and they were the CUTEST ever. I got so many compliments on them! During a visit up to see us in March, Carol took home the dresses I had and when she returned for another visit this month, she brought back one she had finished. It. Is. So. Cute. Abby loves it and has only looked at herself in the mirror 37396931 times since she put it on. She not only made a dress, but also added a shaw as well that she can easily button and unbutton herself. It’s¬†SERIOUSLY adorable and I am so happy with how it turned out. Pretty sure Grandma Carol hit it out of the park with this one.
